What does LFV provide for track meets?
We typically have two large tents for shade, metal spikes for shoes, a large cooler with water bottles, mandarin oranges, watermelon, grapes for all the athletes to enjoy.
What should my athlete bring to a track meet?
Your athlete should bring water/Gatorade, snacks of their choosing, cash for concessions, their running shoes and spikes, uniform, clothes to stay warm before a race.
How long are track meets?
Track meets tend to last a long time, although each meet is different. You do not need to be there the entire time, but should show up 1 hour before your race to get warmed up and acclimated properly. Our first meet is 2-3 hours, but others are much longer. Checking live results will help you determine when your athlete is running and coach Golota will try to provide a good time estimate for you as well.
Do we need to come to practice in order to compete?
Yes. We cannot have athletes missing all the practices and then showing up on meet day. We are a serious program and it is imperative that the athletes are showing up to practice, and not overexerting themselves somewhere else.
What are the age ranges for competition?
The age ranges are 8U, 9-10, 11-12, 13-14, 15-16, 17-18*. Young athletes are capped at 3 event max per meet. You compete in the age group that you turn that calendar year. Example: If you turn 9 in December, you will be competing in the 9-10 age group in the summer, even though you are only 8. Athletes can turn 19 in the calendar year and still compete in the summer in the 17-18 age group, unless they turn 19 during a day of competition.
